Obfuscator Service Discontinuation on November 30, 2024

Hello everyone.

We’re reaching out today with an important update about our Lua obfuscator service. After much consideration and internal discussions with our team and developers, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue the Parcel Obfuscator as of November 30, 2024, at 9:00 PM CET.

We understand this may come as a disappointment to some of you. We want to be completely transparent about why we’ve made this decision and how it aligns with our mission to provide sustainable, high-quality services for our community.

Why are we discontinuing the Obfuscator?

  • Substantial Resource Demands: Maintaining the obfuscator requires significant server resources, which directly impact our operational costs. This isn’t sustainable, especially as Parcel Pro is a one-time purchase (priced at $7.99 or 799 Robux), meaning there’s no recurring revenue to offset these ongoing expenses.
  • Development and Support Costs: Keeping the obfuscator up-to-date demands frequent updates and bug fixes, which require constant attention from our developers. Additionally, obfuscator-related support tickets can only be handled by our dev team, who are already balancing college, personal commitments, and other critical projects for Parcel.
  • Focus on Core Services: Parcel is primarily a marketplace that empowers users to buy and sell virtual assets. By reallocating the resources used for the obfuscator, we’ll be able to enhance the features you love and introduce new tools that align more closely with our core vision.

Are there alternatives to Parcel Obfuscator?

While we are discontinuing the obfuscator, we’ve got you covered with a highly recommended alternative: Luraph. Luraph offers advanced obfuscation tools and features that many of our users have found reliable and effective. We encourage you to explore their services as a replacement.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work to make Parcel the best it can be.

Sincerely,
Josh

Hello. On behalf of around 10 groups who regularly used the Parcel obfuscation tool. Would you be able to open source it so we can fork it?

so, an exit scam? server costs certainly isn’t an issue as even the oracle cloud free tier would be MORE than enough to run obfuscation.

This was the only thing that made parcel unique

A whole lot more than 10 - also whats the point of an obfuscator if its open source?

Good evening @sibyrd,

I would like to clarify that this is not an exit scam. Our core services remain available, and we are fully committed to providing them. Additionally, as outlined in our Terms of Service, we reserve the right to discontinue any service at our discretion, without the obligation to issue refunds.

In this forum post, we provided clear reasons for discontinuing this particular service. At the scale it has reached, maintaining the obfuscator consumes significantly more resources than when it was used by just a few people. It’s also important to note that Parcel Pro operates under a one-time license model, which, at the extremely low price of $7.99, simply does not cover the ongoing operational costs associated with the service.

And to address @lollo5123’s question about open source, you can find more information here: https://github.com/Trollicus/ironbrew-2

Kind regards,
Josh

That’s still an exit scam  you can do it because it’s in your TOS but nevertheless it’s an exit scam. Glad I never bought into this as I know most people bought pro just for the obfuscator

Hey @sibyrd,
In the name of economics –– the obfuscator is no longer profitable. Parcel is operating a loss when providing this service. This means, as time passes, Parcel will continue losing money to the point where operations would have to be entirely restructured (monthly subscriptions –– which lost to a public poll, etc.) which may limit things for one-time purchase customers. If Parcel were to continue to operate at a loss, it could end up with Parcel ceasing operations due to it no longer running a profit to operate.

Why can’t Parcel use a free tier service like Oracle Cloud?
While this would be a great solution that Parcel would love, free tiers have limits. Parcel is a huge hub service which runs multiple web services and almost 9,000 hubs. This takes a lot more power than one can think of, until you run such operation. Because of this, Parcel has to use multiple different hosting services at a cost. This is unavoidable.

While I understand that the Obfuscator was a great tool for clients, and made it unique for certain Parcel users to use –– Parcel simply cannot just maintain it anymore for the reasons listed above. It’s way more difficult than you think. The obfuscator would be a great marketing tool to purchase Pro that I’m sure the Parcel team would wish to keep, however, with the above –– it’s just not possible, unfortunately.

Clients were listed with a great alternative, and were given a way of advanced notice to switch. With a service, especially on Roblox/Discord –– do not expect them to keep key unique services. This is not a large corporation which has multiple revenue ports, it’s a small business made by someone for fun who simply can’t foot the bill and time for everyone. Please kindly understand that the above shows how this is not an “exit scam”.

If you have any questions, feel free to reply or to contact up Parcel support at https://support.parcelroblox.com/ otherwise –– have a better day!

The above shows that it was and exit scam
You didn’t take out a proper financial assessment before you offered a product, you charged people for the product and now you’re taking that product away. Exit scam.

I can guarantee that, unless you’re getting 20-30 obfuscation requests a MINUTE oracle free tier will 100% be enough.

Glad I didn’t purchase anything from this sketchy place

Yeh its like one of the only reasons I have Pro

Hello everyone,

We’re reaching out with an important update regarding the Parcel Obfuscator service. After careful consideration and taking into account the valuable feedback from our community poll, we’ve decided to reverse our earlier decision to discontinue the obfuscator.

Instead, we will be introducing a prepaid mechanism for the service in the coming weeks. This new system will ensure that the obfuscator remains sustainable and accessible to those who rely on it. Until the new system is implemented, the obfuscator will continue to operate as before.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make these adjustments, and we’re grateful for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Josh
